On the previous show, I think you mentioned you were at least operating out of the DC area. I'm going to be in DC from the 22nd to the 26th for the Marine Corps Marathon and would be happy to buy you a beer if you're around.

Thanks for putting out a great show that turns me on to music I'd never know existed otherwise.

Hello Rob & thank you for being you.

TWoTH has funny giggles. Funny Ha Ha AND Funny Weird.

The podcast is generally online the Monday after each Sunday broadcast. However, unfortunately, regrettably, as I am in the USof right now & am banging about between wi-fi shite hotel after wi-fi shite hotel I is unable to upload the dang show.

I shall keep on keeping on endeavouring, though.

So, to summarise: D'Artagnan.

Love the show. Love the music (I've bought quite at bit after hearing artists on your show for the first time). Love 1/2 of DC jokes and TWoTH's giggles (especially since she's not just giggles). But I haven't figured out the podcast's schedule yet, which leads to disappointment each day I check for a new download. I thought the podcast was released the Monday after it airs, but that doesn't seem to be the case. When should I let myself get excited each week?

Thanks,
Rob Campbell

As Prince once said, kinda, the track by Eek! Bandits next week certainly punches a higher floor. Make sure you plug all your cavities.

Was that track #15? oh shit it was! My notes reveal only one word, hahaha sorry luv.
Well you know they grow on me... it's difficult sometimes, but then I still haven't come around to your Horse Museum guys either. I think these bands are wooing you with their musical know-how! (j/k, you of all people, cannot be woo'd musically, god knows I've tried for months, ha)

We'll see if next week that Eek! Bandits? works out. I'm open minded xoxo

Well, that certainly made me smile :) cheers Tarticles. Where do I fucking begin with that?

Yes, I'm really sinking into The Soil & The Sun stuff. They do need to get that live energy captured properly — I can hear the potential, but it's just knocked off a little by the dampened demo sound. Not their fault, of course, but shake them by the ankles until their sense falls out of their pockets & then force feed it to them until its coming out of their noses.

The 7 Worlds Collide project is a bit odd, to be honest — suffers a little from middle aged dad dancing song structure/lyrics & production. BUT there are a few crackers on the album & Bodhisvatta Blues certainly is one of them — Ed O'Brien is clearly all over that fucker.

Fake Problems are another band that suffer a little from overt alt.country bar room rawk sensibilities, but when they reign it in they nail it.

Press On Randy are, frankly, very bloody clever. Their EP is excellent. There's a brilliant track scheduled for next week.

A.A. Bondy is simply genius. I love the new album.

Joshua James. Hmmm. Yes. Just not sure if he's too Katie Melua, you know? Let me know what he does on stage. If there's a point at which he asks the audience to to clap the rhythm then throw your shoe at him & leave.

Roses Kings Castles is a tough one to call because the quality of the records thus far have all been at demo level & as such a lot of the tunes & cleverness is lost under the mighty mighty presence of his somewhat arch voice. I understand what you mean by novelty. There's an almost 'quirky by numbers' feel to the melodies. But. I love it. Give me him over Pete Cockerty any fucking day.

The Horse's Ha are brilliant — I am amazed you didn't know about them. I never brought them up as I took it as a given. Map Of Stars has been floating in & out of the playlist possibilities for weeks & weeks — just didn't have the vehicle to springboard it off, because it is such an in your face wig out. That A Fine Frenzy track, which I know you don't like :P, was perfect.

I am Your Autopilot? Think you said it all there, really.

The Pocketbooks are one of those bands that lurch from too brightly produced twee to sub standard twee. However, when they hit the balance it's perfect indie pop. I love that track.

Now. Jamie T.. Yes. Fast becoming my record of the year. Even overtaking the likes of Jordaan Mason & The Horse Museum, simply because of the inventiveness of the musical underlay & the fucking genius lyrics. Expect more of his brilliant tracks in weeks to come.

No thoughts on Eek! Bandits? I have to say I have fallen for them massively. But that's probably because I now have access to a few more new tracks & demos. I fucking love At Least I've Got Friends. Love it. BUT. You wait until next week when I play their latest newbie. Fucking hell it's good. These are two college grads living in a Tulsa studio recording their new album. Fucking kids, man! Their historical musical knowledge is quite something. I really do think these guys will be big. Watch this space...

Until next week. Don't have nightmares.

Well, first off, thanks for your wonderful words about The Soil and The Sun. They *are* very special, aren't they? That song you played is the one they have closed their set with both times I've seen them play. And it is a powerful piece live. You can't adequately imagine it from the demo recording, I fear. But it does give a glimmer as to what Alex and Ben let loose on their audience.

Your picks this week couldn't have been more obscure, now could they, darlin? I think I knew only 5 going into it, and one of them was what I gave you, ha! Highlights of the show: That second track, 7 Worlds Collide's "Bodhisvatta Blues" was an awesome song! I loved the vocals, loved the psychodelic trip out, loved the keyboards, very Elf Powerish, groovy, to my ears. Fake Problems' "Don’t Worry Baby," yes yes yes, and just the right amount of alt-country I love. Press on Randy's "Dog's Go Blind" had such sweet harmonies, and AA Bondy was gorgeous as per expected.

This Joshua James. I'm glad you decided to put him in, I know what you mean, cause he is maybe predictable, but yes good I think. I'll go see on Oct. 2 and let you know... there's definitely more to it than the standard, overproduced major label sound there. Maybe the issue is that he's just way too good looking, eh? ;) (kidding, I mean all that about the music, of course!)

That Roses Kings Castles' song has a cute opening line and it's quirky and fresh but it made me wonder, is that all tho? Novelty? I'd have to hear the rest of the album. And why the hell haven't I heard The horse's Ha??? You keep one of my own local acts from me? Well that track was busy as fuck and really wonderfully crazy. I loved the instrumental bits and the vocals as they were used as the bumpers to set those bigger sections off. I've been really loving that format more and more. I'm Your Autopilot's "We’ve Been Here Before" was really simple but i really like the melody and the syncopation in it and then to be surprised by that electro interlude, was just wow!

You surprised the hell outta me with Pocketbooks wow, again--just wow.... didn't expect THAT at all. That's all I can say. I never expected you to work that kind of song into a Waiting Room show.

And the Jamie T. I think you'll guess that I WANT THIS !!!! I've also turned my good friend Chris Laing onto it for his Buttoned Down Disco DJ nights (pardon the plug), "soul class concrete and gravel, all we've got to keep us together" awesome lyrics... love that so very fucking much :)

great Sunday listening, kisses!

Cheers Tarticles.

The session was rather special. I have the outtakes, too, where they had to stop because they kept coughing through the vocals or fucking up the words, because one had a raging cold & the other was just tour battered. Great stuff. Very funny.

If you liked last week's electic playlist then this week's is gonna blow your toot. It's quite mad. Lots of off-kilter epics, lots of foreign, lots of false ends, lots of what you wouldn't expect you would expect.

Oh, & The Soil & The Sun are on, again, too.

Well, that Mumford & Sons session was stupendously good! Even M.Chut listened with rapt attention and googled to see if perhaps that gorgeous voice was backed by a handsome face. You've seriously out done yourself here, DC!

Other highlights: of course Kill it Kid, who I really cannot get enough of and didn't quite remember having a female lead vocal! And I like that Features song a lot also.

Now you know how excited I am about this duo, The Soil and The Sun. And you've been wonderful to give me a little shout out too! So thanks, and yes, you'll be hearing more about them, as I've been following/stalking them ever since I laid ears on them a week ago. Thanks for putting them on this week, that song is a killer, xoxo

Hello mad, mad English people. I thought I should finally delurk and say how much I enjoyed this show and the sheer irreverence of The Waiting Room.

That's not accurate really as I have enjoyed the show ever since you joined WOXY.com and I have been working backwards through the archives since. Admittedly I have been slow in getting through the hundreds of shows you appear to have, but that's only because I have a full life outside of the office.

My point is I really dig the madness and the very well chosen music. Thank you for the insanity on Saturdays.

Wow, what a fantastic episode! I've just started listening TWR (methodically, backwards from 15-Aug), and this one is a real stand-out among otherwise excellent material. I could have done without the 4th-of-July mocking. I live in Boston and am very aware of how manufactured the self-righteousness of the founders might seem, but a monarchy is a monarchy. That is, the intellectual basis for our little experiment here was strong. Plus, we're all friends now- nothing but love, right?

Anyway, so many stand-outs here, and all of the segments seemed really well conceived. Nice call on the REM-ish song by the Little Glitches (the REM version was 'Swan Swan Hummingbird' I think). Thanks for pulling all of this wonderful mess together.

Ah, that was gorgeous. The interview bit was particularly good, even though you talked her ears off, DC! But very interesting questions with interesting answers were had, and ones that I often think of myself such as how people choose to sing the way they do and how do words come to songs? What a generous performer she is, very impressive!

And song choice this week: Swimming in Speakers, Dear Reader, Barnaby Bright, Peggy Sue, Adam and Darcie, and Jen Grant were stand outs for me -- all really good. I'm so glad you added that "Milagros" song at the end, her voice is really wonderful on that, what a treasure, xoxo

Thank you Tarticles. I really must reply to some of the other comments - I have been kept away from this 'blog' too long by nonsense & fatigue :)

That German chatter was, actually, only about a quarter of what happned, I may recount a few more stories in the next show becuse some of them are very odd/baffling/mad.

Glad you liked those you've listed - I love The Bronx, but I really wasn't so sure anyone would because the Mariachi thing has been kinda killed off by Beirut. Great album, btw - worth digging out.

Sweet Baboo (or, Bubbew) is fucking superb. Full. Stop. This album has been the surprise of the year for me. His debut was kinda *meh*, trading on the wonky twee he likes to associate with in terms of listening habit & friends. But this one, super-Jesus Christ it's good. It's the album I knew he could make but also was afraid he'd never make, purely because I know the raw talent this kid has had from a tiny age & seen it in various forms over the years but he had this thing where it would go a bit wayward; a bit lost. It needed control. I think playing in a few other bands, playing so many solo gigs etc. has granted him that focus. Lucky for us, I say. Look him up. Get the album.

The Modest Mouse surprised me, actually. Like I said, never been a fan. This track was rather excellent, though. Rather excellent.

As for the playlist, it came together quite easily but I wasn't sure I was hitting all the marks. It was only when I had stopped thinking about it & played it for the show record that I recognised the tracks were actually playing off each other very well indeed. I didn't even hear the join in one mx between 2 tracks on the playback on Saturday & thought I'd missed a bugger out :)

&, finally, no. I do not need to learn to drive. As for the clutch, well... I knew that. My very point was he didn't... the dick.

Great show, crazy story of your German plight! and awesome tunes. Highlights include: The Bronx (love the Mariachi elements!); Sweet Baboo (if not for the wonderful sounds, then for the absolutely awesome way that TwoTh pronounces "Baboo"); Fabian (gorgeously sexy foreign words in that one); and that Modest Mouse track thrilled me quite unexpectedly.

You've really got this playlist all up and down this week. I love the crashing and then it going all tingly and bitsy-like but transitioning in a very smooth way. That doesn't seem like it would make sense but it's how it sounded and at the time it worked.

Finally, you really should learn to drive, darlin! Everyone knows that you have to step on the clutch to start the car, hahaha

Mother's Auxilliary was my favorite piece of the show, I was gripped by its sound and narration , what a combination, Donald cast a deep spell on me jesus what a fine piece of musical art, where do you find this kind of work DC? In fact I found the whole set between Donald and The Sound and Fury smooth, relaxing, sweetness, that played together very well. Sweet Baboo aptly named . Also enjoyed Turnham Green too bad about their drummer, nice way to walk the stairway to heaven though, its a shame when someone with talent leaves the world, it throws nature out of balance for a while.

Thanks for Nouvelle Vague, I love the babe.

As usual exceptional show, consistently exceptional? is that possible. You made my world a little better with your work. hello to the sweet TWoTH, hh
