Hello TLF.
TWoTH here. It’s been quite a slow-paced week here at DCHQ following DC’s return to our version of civilisation after culture-swapping with yours for over 3 weeks. This is chiefly due to some strange, lingering malaise that has befallen him.
It looks & sounds (from his frequent girly grunts & snuffles) like a nightmare case of jetlag — his sleeping patterns are buggered, to be frank. The Doctor, however, seems to think it is a virus he may have picked up while in your care. Yes. YOUR care America. Tsk Tsk.
Of course, it could be he’s just a little run down after all the traveling & running around festivals & gigs & sessions & such. We’ll know more after the test results.
Whatever the cause, this week’s show is a loose affair (albeit high in spirit & jinks) & we are proud to bring you a superb live studio session from the brilliant Dan Michaelson & The Coastguards, recorded at the lovely Offshore Music Recording Studio in Cardiff.
There’s also the small matter of an interview I conducted with the band, but the less we dwell on that the better.
There’s also the addition of an extra studio guest (factored in to make up for DC’s potential lack of pizazz), who happens to be a veteran TV/radio broadcaster, journalist/film critic & stand up comedian. He also just so happens to be my brother. Or, BoTWoTH as we inevitably crowned him.
Finally, we will be introducing a brand new Cardiff 4-piece to the show, WOXY & you. We saw their first ever gig a few weeks back & up until then they had only been together 3 weeks.
During that period they wrote a handful of songs, ambient mic* recorded them in a live room* at the University of Wales in Cardiff (UWIC) Howard Gardens School of Art & Design, then gave them away as a CDr at the end of their (yes) headlining set.
Even though the sound engineer* did an appalling job on the night we (ok, DC) recognised the raw talent up on stage. So impressed was DC that he immediately booked them in for a studio session & interview.
For now, though, we will be playing one of the brilliant tracks off their CDr. Hopefully that will whet your appetite as much as it has ours.
That’s about it I think. I forget how DC signs these things off & I’ve probably written far too much. Oh well nevermind…
