iya.
This week’s clattering ridiculum includes, as you might have gathered from the above promo eye candy, a very special (some say ‘as in olympics’, some say ‘as in D.A.R.Y.L.‘) guest in the DCHQ studio in the shape & form of one Mr. Lloyd Robson. Who hell he? Well, he hell who is a rather respected Welsh poet, novelist, journalist, photograffiti artist & general bon vivant on the media/literary/arts scene.
He’s recently published (via Parthian) the excellent (& this isn’t bias because we know him quite well, it truly is thoroughly excellent) gonzo-style journal/autobiographical trawl through the pre-Hollywood history of Robert Mitchum, entitled Oh Dad! A Search for Robert Mitchum.
The book, via interludes with the writer’s own self discovery, recounts Mitchum’s early years as a child prodigy / poet, boxcar hobo, member & escapee of a chaingang, early acting roles, the many, many women, the drugs, the arrests, the booze, &, of course, the man. A cracking read, especially if you like very detailed drug-fuelled accounts of sex with strangers picked up in bars.
For those of you interested in learning more about the sex stuff &, of course, Mitchum’s early life, splattered with Lloyd’s descent into method-writing/copius amounts of boozing, sexing, drugging his way across the Eastern Seaboard of the USof, you can purchase Oh Dad! A Search for Robert Mitchum here (USA) or here (UK) or direct from Lloyd himself (here).
As well as suffering verbal abuse from ½DC, Lloyd selected 6 of his very favourite all time desert island-style tracks for the now common sextet, what are:
- Robert Mitchum – Gotta Travel On
- The Walker Brothers – Make It Easy On Yourself
- Tim Buckley – Honey Man (Live)
- The Ink Spots – Do I Worry
- The Dells – I Can Sing A Rainbow/Love Is Blue
- Watershed – Nothing Moves Gently
Apart from that fine collection you will also get the pleasure of massaging your internal ear canals with the likes of Lacrosse, Casper & The Cookies, Alexi Murdoch, The Ghost Is Dancing, Hands & Knees, Brakes Brakes Brakes, The Shortwave Set, Green Go & the now custom many, many more.
In all, this week’s show is a riot of pleasure designed (in an accidental, “let’s see how it goes” way) for your cerebral hemisphere.
So, you know, do what it is you know what to do, then.

Mr Dc: Today’s show was superb, esp the cover art, and the intro . Fan-Fing-tastic !
Interview was excellent, where do I get the book, cant figure how to post to TWR on WOXY and didn’t want to wait until Mon to provide Kudos.
Best to TWOTH
stay well ,
you may think I am full of sheiss but every time I say “it cant get any better”… it does.

just listened to the show. ya know, I don’t know if it’s cos I’m in the same state now as I was when we recorded it, but I really enjoyed that. thanks for the opportunity.
enjoy VA. say hello to my mother-in-law if you see her.

MR DC: There is reason to believe that I have discovered “The Lurker” living in Homer, Alaska; Princess Tiger Lily come on and start posting, show us some sweet briar panache and bravado .
Hey Lloyd, enjoyed your interview and want to read the book, always been a fan of Mitchum and expect to enjoy your perspective on him.
Stay well , hh
Howdy kids.
Cheers HH. It was a mad show in all - Lloyd’s mic farted out (bad lead connection so I later discovered) so we kinda lost a LOT of the later chatter (if IF I have time I’ll try & recover it & post the entire interview/guest slot as a stand alone in the interview section over on the right hand side of the site); but, as so often happens, there was far more than needed material to fill the whole show. I think it capturs the fun & chaos in the studio.
Would you not agree Lloyd? Incidentally, I’m home now &, no, I didn’t bump into the MiL.
Cheers guys.
This show was one of my favourites of late. We had such fun recording this and I think it shows.
And if that wasn’t enough, the music was excellent. It all gelled wonderfully, including Lloyd’s sextet. The Tim Buckley track, especially, was astounding.
So thanks Lloyd for turning the show into something less of a chore for me.

ps. Hi HH! I’m doing well, hope you are too.
I have had quite a lot of people saying how much they enjoyed this outing, Lloyd’s chatter & humour in particular, that I’m tempted to ask him back on for another co-hosting slot.
Should he be available, for he is buggering orf to Larndarn soon, is this something that might appeal?
TWOTH: The show reminded me of the rolicking shows from a few years ago stored on the basement archives below The Waiting Room World HQ building in Cardiff. It was obvious you were having a good time and that DC was living up to his monicker. I have to watch the Night of the Hunter again as well as Thunder Road. Robert Mitchum was quite a guy, there are few like him today.
I just ordered a copy of the book. Based on what I heard in the show and the fact that Mitchum is one of my favorite actors I decided that I wanted the book more than the money in my pocket. I expect it to be a good read, and am looking forward to it.
It sounds like Lloyd is between assignments and probably could carve out a little time to do a few more shows. I say bring him back. I liked his music selections, eclectic and very good choices all, well up to the high standards maintained by TWR. Best to all at Cardiff World Headquarters.

Hey Harry.
Well, here I am, buring the candle oil, once again. TWoTH is all shagged out (tired, people, tired) & tucked up in bedfordshire.
I put the question to Mr. Robson vis a vis another appearance & he has accepted — we shall record this next shower in a week or two, & play it just before he disappears to that Germany for a week or 3. He’ll have a selection of tunes again — probably those we missed out of the last show due to time.
Cheers again for the kindness, we do blush you know. Oh do we blush.
