A few months back ½DC + TWoTH bussed up to Birmingham, England to interview 2 of TWR’s very favourite Swedish(-based) lady singer/songwriters: Ane Brun & Jennie Abrahamson.
Both interviews were carried out in not exactly perfect conditions — as soon as the record button was pressed the air conditioning system kicked in, producing this low, moaning background hum, & the off switch was elusive to even the venue owners.
Here we go again…
Then, be-Jaysus, the soundcheck started. Not satisfied with simply cranking up the guitars, keys & harmonies at inopportune moments, but the sound-techs then PA’d Phil Collins (of all people) - at deafening levels - to set the spacial mix for the support acts’ drums. Yes, that’s right. In the Air Tonight.
Still, editing nightmare aside, both are very enlightening, informative & giggly chats.
Of course, there’s the small matter of a rather wonderful competition to win signd copies of both Ane’s & Jennie’s latest albums + a grab bag of other goodies that we’ll throw in… ‘cited yet?
Question:
At which Birmingham venue did ½DC interview Ane & Jennie?
Answers to competition (@) twrhq.com — the winner will be drawn from a hat in a later show.
Finally, we thoroughly recommend you go & watch Ane’s stunning b&w video for Don’t Leave — something Ane & DC discussed in detail during ther interview (but didn’t make the cut). Look out for the recurring motif & symmetry. Quite lovely.
The remainder of the show is much as we left it last week: shabby, rambling, incoherent, & yet, shoe-horned into the jibber/jabber, there appears a steady stream of musical brilliance. The full tracklisting, for your brain to digest via your eyes, is here.
So, you know, you know what to do.
On your marks…

p.s.
We’re busily editing all the recently gathered material from the Homegame festival + a brace of interviews with the likes of Slow Club (+ an end of the pier session), The Phantom Band (+ a remarkable live set), & Candythief (+ a commissioned session), The Wave Pictures, Trembling Bells, & Sons Of Noel & Adrian (+ a remarkable session).
Also in the pipeline are interviews lined up with Dan Michaelson & The Coastguards (+ session), Andrew Bird & Clem Snide (+ session), as well as a very special shhh! secret squirrel session & interview that we’re doing in conjunction with the powers that be over at WOXY - more on that as things develop…
In short, you are going to get spoiled rotten.

DC: There is music that clangs, clatters, thumps, twangs, pounds, screams and screeches. Ane and Jennie make music that flows, sways, glides, ebbs and flows. Look in the dictionary for music and you will hear this. This is what they are playing in heaven.

Armour just slays me every time I hear it. And Jennie’s voice rings so clear and true, the more I hear of these two the more I love. Great peek into their lovely personalities as well, nicely done.
Now I’m trying desperately to hate that Withered Hand song… oh fuck it, it’s brilliant xx
