Jackanory, tell us a story, is it?
This week, then, bloody hell. Sound issues, man-based illnesses, 100mph rambling about very little in particular, a brief appearance from The Woman of The House, an even briefer appearance of Toad, & an Amy Winehouse call to arms. Welcome, then, you, to The Waiting Room.
Crammed into this week’s artist-packed show, bringing sanity to an otherwise erstwhile chaos, was, but not entirely:
Langhorne Slim, Kara Keith, Marina & The Diamonds, Noah & The Whale, Boss Hog, Addicted To Love (a Candythief side project), Bombadil, Heathers, Ultra Orange & Emmanuelle + a whole galleon of others.
Settle back, then, & plug your very ample arse in.

DC: Great show, I really enjoyed it esp the intro and comments about the Woman of the house cleaning gutters. Music as usual was superb, also interested to hear you are heading west in June, if you are in DC drop a line, I would like to meet you. It would be interesting to see how my mental conjurings of you from the Waiting Room match the real McCoy.

My daughter is graduating from Sweet Briar College in Lynchburg, VA in a few weeks. I burned a copy of Drunk covers V for her and it seems that you have become a pop star at Sweet Briar, I told you were going to be a star. Stay well hello to the Woman of the house and if you end up in Washington call me and I will try to repay you for all of that hard work with various spirits and such.
You poor old codger! Sorry to hear about the crick in your neck. First it was amoebic dysentery and now this. I’m really loving the Fleet Foxes. I first heard their “White Winter Hymnal” last summer or fall, and I just love that tune. They came to Washington DC with Blitzen Trapper back in March but I was out of town and had to miss it. I rue that sorry sorry day. The Sargasso Trio is starting to sink in now, but I really didn’t like it at first. Not sure why. The Colorblind James Experience is ace. From Rochester, NY, did you say? A few hours from where I grew up.
Hey! Kele Goodwin! I posted a little thingy about him on the Fun and Heartbreak blog a while back. Isn’t that a lovely tune? He is apparently a close amigo of Tom Bevitori, who plays guitar with Alela Diane’s touring outfit. The new songs on his myspace and gorgeous as well.
Cheers Cf+Bf, & apologies for the delay in response.
The neck’s a little sore, still, but the prescribed mixture of liquor & ale seem to be doing the trick.
Yes, Rochester. That was their base almost from the very beginnings & has remained as such for the surviving members. Not sure if they continue in a CbJE vein or they’re off doing their own gig, but most of them are contributing to a memory blog (here), which is full of poignant reminiscences.
& Kele Goodwin, yup. He’s good. Like him.
Sargasso Trio are a tad arch, but I like ‘em.
Next week, well, I’m not sure what’ll be happening. Now is the time I have to start loading up on pre-records in prep for my Stateside jaunt throughout June (6 are needed, at least, to cover that). TWoTH is in DCHQ today (Sunday) to do a special on The Gourds with me &, also, that much mooted Swedish Music special. Tomorrow (Monday) both Fisk & the other half of/Mouse are in to do 2 separate shows & a joint show, & I have at least one solo to cram in tomorrow eve. That’s a lot of songs. A lot of songs. Bloody hell, what have I set myself up for?
Has no one noticed the liberal use of “Gulliver’s Travels” in the first two part of the introduction, then?
Bloody hell. We put all that effort into intellectualising a gag & no one even knows the source text.
That’s it. Next week we’re reading Knut Hamson’s “The Hunger” between tracks.
That’ll taught ‘em.
